We can introduce you to sailing, getting you to the point of being able to charter a yacht anywhere in the world through Sunsail and Moorings, and leading into day skipper and coastal passages.
So what are you missing out on?
Freedom... to be at one with nature... to choose an alternative to stress... to challenge oneself... to relax and be cosseted by gentle breezes... to adventure in foreign lands... to discover communities of interesting friends and characters...
We specialise in teaching you to sail keel boats rather than dinghies and multihulls. If you are interested in those, see our links. Keel boats are traditional monohull yachts, providing accommodation and space for cruising, while allowing you to race on any number of levels (classes).
They are great for families and many provide the facilities for a family to take extended holidays in some interesting locations. Picture a fully equipped holiday home with a moveable location: Tweed Heads to Cairns for example, or South, from Brisbane to Hobart.

Introduction to sailing Spent in the calm waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater, you'll experience the wind and sun in your face and discover a different world among the barrier islands that form a playground where you can take the first steps in learning to sail. This will include the art of basic sail trim, safety procedures, steering a boat, and the basic knots that you need to learn. Learn the difference between ropes, lines sheets, and halyards! |
Overnighting Overnight courses on the Broadwater allow you to experience the conditions and learn the skills required for extended time away on a yacht. The course includes provisioning (what and what not to take), secure anchoring and mooring, boat to shore transfers and more. |
Competent Crew Really your first step in learning to sail. The course covers all aspects of sailing a yacht, including safety and sailing terms; steering and sail handling; Man Over Board; fire and distress situations; use of a dinghy and outboard motor; weather, anchoring and basic navigation. |
The Broadwater The Gold Coast Broadwater is a popular spot, but needs to be treated with respect. You need to know and understand navigation, including markers, tidal conditions and 'rules of the road'. |
Chartering Aimed at building your skills to the level of being able to charter a yacht from a company like Sunsail, Moorings or Footloose. Sailing (and chartering) is a team exercise, and this course will take you through team building skills required in anchoring and spending nights away. |
Moreton Bay Where the Broadwater is open and reasonably calm, Moreton Bay can be rougher and less sheltered, but still has its pleasures: wrecks and dolphins at Tanagalooma; dugons in travels between the mainland the islands (??). |
